For the 2017 Fair SDMG's casting class made a diorama inspired by Alice in Wonderland's mad tea party.

 

 

 

And awayy we go to the San Diego County Fair where the theme for 2018 will be How Sweet It Is!  Yes indeed, this year with be the great one. Well over 120 gems, minerals, fossils, faceting, jewelry and lapidary enthusiasts entered a total of 365 entries, making it the third largest number of entries of all-time. It beat out last year's record setting number of 352. About 40 exhibitors are SDMG members. Thank you for supporting the Gems & Minerals Department again this year! 

All of the proposed new classes for 2018

MINERAL OF THE YEAR:

  • Fluorite.

 

FOSSIL OF THE YEAR:

  • Fossil Fruits, Leaves & Cones

 

Mineral Specimens Worldwide. Professional. Full case.

 

One faceted stone from natural material, with corresponding rough, any size. Master.

 

Art Jewelry. Original concept. Single piece. Synthetic stones acceptable. Amateur.

Air chasing jewelry. Single piece.

SCHEDULE 2018:

  • Brochure: Available now in the SDMG casting room.

  • Online entry opens: Available now at sdiego.fairmanager.com.
  • Entry Deadline: Friday, April 27, at 11:59 pm. (Enter by Thursday, to avoid web hangups!)
  • Deliver exhibits: Saturday and Sunday, May 26-27, from 9 am to 6 pm.
  • First day of Fair: Friday, June 1. Gate opens at 4 pm.
  • Exhibitor Appreciation: Wednesday, June 6. 6 to 9 pm.
  • Last day of Fair: Wednesday, July 4.
  • Pick up exhibits: Friday, July 6. 9 am to 8 pm.
