DECEMBER NIGHTS (CHRISTMAS ON THE PRADO) & CHRISTMAS POTLUCK – 2014

Well, we had another very successful year.  Lots of work, fun and Christmas spirit.  "December Nights" started out as "Christmas on the Prado" many years back and was once a small relaxing annual event with not much in the way of commercial businesses.  Things have sure changed!  Still, it's nice to see so many people in such a good mood.

Most of our volunteers worked late into the evening and even the next morning.  The museum, sales area and shop were very busy with visitors and customers.  Lois Lukasky, Donna Casey and Debbie Clough decorated the museum, then Lois and Bonnie Zeranski set up the potluck food area so everyone present would be well fed.  Thanks, to all those who brought food to share.

The main booth was operated by volunteers Mike Harlow, Rocio Bergum, Jill Williamson, Diana Willner, Angela and Garry Cannon and Jim and Sally Parrish.  Special thanks to Mike for all the time spent cutting geodes for use in our sale.  I must also mention that Angela, Garry and Sally helped prepare specimens and the museum for the event.  Lois Lukasky, with the help of Doug Peeler and Donna Casey sold items to benefit our Juniors.

Our shop area was kept open by numerous volunteers that included Paul Williams, Denny Turner, Bob Hancock, and Rich Yarbrough.  Hopefully, I didn't miss anyone.  If I did, I apologize, and thank you for your time and effort.

The result of the SDMG Open House was very fulfilling after seeing the thousands of smiling faces going through our museum and shop.  We also signed up some new members during the two days of the event.  This whole event wouldn't be possible without all the generous donations the Club receives on a continuous basis.  Thanks to all of you.  Please, let us know if you have any other donations that need to be picked up.  Happy New Year.

Outgoing Christmas Potluck Chairperson Bonni Macintosh organized a great holiday feast, where SDMG members once again gathered together to share holiday cheer and the fellowship of auld acquaintance and auld lang syne.  It was a full house with members and guests congregating at our traditional Balboa Park venue in Room 101 at the Casa del Prado.  There was a troupe of volunteer elves who helped to deck the halls, lay out the feast, organize the door prizes and silent auction, and of course, oversee the Christmas Tree Ornament Contest.  Warm thanks to one and all, with special thanks to those members who always seem to contribute countless hours and a lot of effort to ensure that our annual events are a success:  Donna Casey, Cathy Davis, Sharon Griswold, Mike Harlow, Lee Jackson, Simon King, Betty Jo Lively, Lois Lukasky, Jim and Sally Parrish, Anne Schafer and Wayne Moorhead, Marty Roks, Jane Roush, Gladys Walker, Jill Williamson.

All the Best for a Happy New Year.
